Italian Society of Victimology


Article 1


The Italian Society of Victimology adopts the following deontological code, which serves as a code of ethics and conduct that all members of the Society are obliged to follow in order to enhance the dignity, competence, and professionalism of victimologists and criminologists affiliated with the S.I.V. This code applies to all professionals registered with the Society, including during internships and educational-training activities.


Article 2


Victimologists and criminologists carry out activities aimed at guiding and supporting victims across various operational areas, through prevention and collaboration in the suppression of criminal conduct.


Article 3


Professionals affiliated with the S.I.V.:
- must always bear in mind that the purpose of their activities is to safeguard the individual under all circumstances through honesty and a sense of humanity;
- must not be influenced by prejudices related to gender, race, social class, or religion, and must ensure effective assistance in full compliance with privacy regulations, without using data or information that could harm the individual;
- must align their conduct with principles of loyalty and fairness, promoting initiatives aimed at advancing criminological and victimological sciences and applying correct operational frameworks based on technical-scientific knowledge acquired and developed in various fields.


Article 4


S.I.V. members and those practicing as criminologists and victimologists must adhere to professional confidentiality in accordance with the application of current legal provisions.


Article 5


It is the duty of those practicing as criminologists and victimologists to continuously update their professional training, enhancing their theoretical-practical knowledge, skills, and competencies.


Article 6


Any misconduct deemed detrimental to the interests of the professional category must be reported to the Association in a detailed and documented manner, so that appropriate measures can be taken by the governing bodies.


Article 7


This code consists of 7 articles and will take effect following approval by the Board of Directors and the Assembly of Members.
