Mission and Values
The association was established in 1991 and initially operated on a purely scientific-cultural level, serving as a hub for discussion among experts and enthusiasts, mostly from academic backgrounds, in the field of victimology. To this end, it organized and held specific meetings for exchange and dialogue both nationally and internationally, as well as promoting study missions abroad for young researchers.
In April 2004, driven by the growing demand from public and private entities for scientific consultancy to define the organization of structures dedicated to the assistance and support of victims, the association, on one hand, amended its Statute to open up to these perspectives and, on the other, promoted a coherent expansion of its membership, which is still ongoing, to complement the academic component with an adequate representation of agencies operationally involved in the field.
Indeed, the purpose of the Association, in the spirit of freedom of scientific research, is to promote, analyze, and design all initiatives aimed at enhancing the protection of persons offended by crimes and, in general, of victims of deviance, injustice, marginality, violence, war events, and environmental disasters, with regard to the social and cultural conditions that individually or collectively affect them.
The Association's fields of investigation include:
a) - analyzing the ability of persons offended by crimes to effectively participate in investigations and trials;
b) - analyzing the social, psychological, and legal assistance techniques and methods available to persons offended or otherwise directly or indirectly victims of events causing them unjust harm;
c) - analyzing the aforementioned issues with specific reference to urban security.
The S.I.V. is listed in the directory of the Ministry of Economic Development of Professional Associations and, therefore, promotes the continuing education of its members in accordance with Law No. 4/2013, certifying the quality and professional qualification of the services provided by its members pursuant to Articles 4, 7, and 8 of the aforementioned law. To this end, it collaborates with the Popular University "Enrico Ferri" (U.P.E.F.)
