Italian Society of Victimology

Mission and Values

The Association was founded in 1991 with the initial aim of promoting scientific and cultural reflection in the field of victimology, establishing itself from the outset as a reference point for scholars and experts, predominantly from the academic sphere.
In this initial phase, it fostered dialogue and the exchange of experiences through the organization of conferences, seminars, and study missions abroad, particularly aimed at young researchers, both at national and international levels.
Over time, in response to the growing demand from public and private entities for scientific expertise in designing services and interventions for victims, the Association amended its Statute (April 2004) to expand its scope of action. Alongside this statutory change, there was a progressive opening toward new social components, with the inclusion of professionals and practitioners active in the field of victim assistance and support, in order to complement the academic foundation with representation from agencies engaged daily in the field.
Within the framework of the freedom of scientific research, the Association today aims to promote, analyze, and design initiatives aimed at protecting individuals harmed by crime, as well as victims of social injustice, discrimination, violence, and environmental disasters, with particular attention to the social and cultural factors that impact the conditions of victimization.
